EVALUATION AND TESTING

Dr. Gorski provides comprehensive evaluations for children, adolescents, and young adults with a range of needs, including:

  • Developmental delays
  • Socialization and social communication difficulties, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Social-emotional difficulties
  • Learning differences
  • Attention and executive functioning
  • Hyperactivity/impulsivity
  • Behavioral difficulties

The Evaluation Process

While evaluations differ depending on the exact referral questions and current concerns, they typically involve four separate appointments and include assessment of:

  • Developmental history (parent interview and record review)
  • Developmental or cognitive functioning
  • Social and emotional functioning
  • Adaptive skills
  • Communication and language
  • Academic skills
  • Attention
  • Memory
  • Executive functioning

For younger children, Dr. Gorski often travels to schools or other settings to observe the child directly and learn more about the child’s social interactions and school functioning.

Building a Bridge from Evaluation to Education and Treatment

Dr. Gorski believes that a collaborative and positive relationship-building approach among professionals is critical for positive educational and treatment outcomes. Upon request, Dr. Gorski attends school meetings and also consults with therapists in the community about her evaluation findings and recommendations.

Adult Evaluations

In addition to evaluating children and adolescents, Dr. Gorski evaluates young adults who have concerns about their social communication differences, including those with a past ASD diagnosis, as well as individuals seeking evaluation for ASD or related conditions. The evaluation process for adults is similar to the process for children and adolescents, but may involve fewer appointments. Parent involvement is optional.

During an initial consultation, Dr. Gorski will work to understand the young adult’s concerns. If Dr. Gorski feels an evaluation is appropriate, she will suggest a structure for the process. If she is not the best match for that individual’s needs, she will provide a referral to another clinician who can meet their needs better.
